Marshall Landis Ward, 80, of Scott City passed away Monday, March 6, 2017, at his home. He was born March 24, 1936 in Charleston, Mo - the youngest of six children to Ray and Lucille (Starnes) Ward.
Marshall grew up in the Missouri bootheel. He graduated from Wardell High School in 1954. He married Trellis Mercer on November 24, 1956 in Chicago, Illinois. Of that union, three daughters were born. Marshall moved his family to Scott City in 1963 to open the Economy IGA store, which they owned and operated for several years. He later made a career change to office equipment sales and service, which eventually led to owning his own business, Ward Office Equipment & Supply. Through his twenty year span of servicing customers, he met many life-long friends.
Marshall loved music, especially the piano, which he taught himself to play. He enjoyed singing, dancing, and watching his favorite TV show, Lawrence Welk. Each morning began with a trip to "the Burger" for coffee and socializing with his brother and friends of the community.
Loving survivors include three daughters; DeRhonda Gosche, Lisa (Tim) McConnell, and Dana (Jason) Wright, all of Scott City. Six grandchildren; Chad (Nicole) Schlosser, Ryan Schlosser, Amber (Nick) Burger, Brandon and Britney Wright, and Drew McConnell. Five great-grandchildren; Logan, Drake, Aiden, and Harper Schlosser and Lillian Burger. Five siblings; Aubrey Ward of Risco, MO; Mildred Patton of Livonia, MI; Marge Brewsaugh of Odenton, MD; Nadine Rudkin and Larry (Pat) Ward, of Scott City. Also, Jeanie McFarland, long-time companion, and Johnny Gills, life-long friend.
He was preceded in death by his parents, brothers-in-law Bud Brewsaugh, I.J. Gregg, and Buck Rudkin; sister-in-law Irene Ward, and grandson, Blake Landis Wright.
Visitation will be from 4-8 on Thursday at Amick-Burnett Funeral Chapel in Scott City.
Funeral Service will be at 10:00 am on Friday at the chapel, with Pastor Jeremy Sells officiating. Burial will follow at Lightner Cemetery in Scott City, Mo
