Bernard August "Barney" Heisserer, 83, of Kelso died Thursday, July 16, 2015, in Scott City due to injuries sustained in an automobile accident. He was born March 28, 1932, to August and Rosalia Glastetter Heisserer. He and Alta Irene James were married Dec. 29, 1951, in Kelso. She preceded him in death June 6, 2010. Bernard was a dock foreman at Associated Building Centers and a farmer. He was a member of VFW Post 3838 and American Legion Post 63 in Cape Girardeau, St. Augustine Catholic Church in Kelso, and Knights of Columbus Council 6420 in Scott City. He served in the U.S. Navy during the Korean War. Survivors include a son, John (Angel) Heisserer of Scott City; three daughters, Debra (Steve) Hamil of Manhattan, Kansas, Paula (Donnie) Braeuner of Scott City, Melissa Bradshaw of Cape Girardeau; six grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren. He was also preceded in death by a son, five brothers, five sisters, and a grandson. Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Sunday at St. Augustine Catholic Church in Kelso. Parish prayers will be at 7, followed by Knights of Columbus service. Funeral Mass will be at 10 a.m. Monday at the church with the Rev. Oliver Clavin as celebrant. Burial will be in St. Augustine Cemetery with full military honors. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to St. Jude Childrens Research Hospital.
