William Clinton "John" Gilmer, Jr. died Sunday, November 23, 2014 at St. Francis Medical Center in Cape Girardeau. He was born November 25, 1940 at Cape Girardeau, the son of William Clinton and Bertha Enelia Johnston Gilmer, Sr. He married Mary Michele Glazier on December 15, 1965 in Paragould Ark. John was a retired conductor with the Southern Pacific - Cotton Belt Railroad. He was a member of Scott City First Baptist Church where he had served as a Deacon. He served in the US Army. John took great pride in bringing smiles to children's faces as Rollo the Clown. Survivors include his wife Michele of Scott City; a son, Tom (Tracey) Gilmer of Scott City; two daughters, Tricia (Jeff) Curnell and Susie Gilmer of Scott City; a brother Gary (Shelia) Gilmer of Devine, TX; four grandchildren, Tom, Tim, Taylor and Chelsea Gilmer; and a great grandson Laythan Stone. Friends may call Tuesday from 4:00 - 8:00 p.m. at Amick Burnett Funeral Chapel in Scott City. Funeral services will be Wednesday at 10:00 a.m. at the chapel, with Rev. Jeremy Sells officiating. Burial with full military honors will follow in Lightner Memorial Cemetery at Scott City.
