Oral F. Noon, 90 of Scott City, Missouri passed away peacefully Sunday June 22, 2014 at his home. He was born November 11, 1923 to Dora and Everett Martin of Davenport, Iowa . Due to the tough times of the thirties Oral and two of his brothers were put in foster care to be retrieved later, but that time never came. Oral was taken in as a foster child and later adopted by Frank and Edna Noon of Independence, Missouri. He was their only child. After graduating Catholic School, Oral joined the CC camp (Civilian Conservation Corps) at Fort Leonard Wood, Missouri. After working at the CC Camp, World War II started and he enlisted in the Merchant Marines. During the war Oral had three ships torpedoed and two ships sunk that he was on. He was one of fifteen who survived the last sinking. He later met and married the love of his life Julia Madeline Smith on February 17th, 1944 at St. Mary's Church in Parsons, KS. Together for nearly thirty years they owned and operated Modern Roofing and Sheet Metal Inc. Oral and his dad, Frank, both enjoyed baseball and supporting the Illmo-Scott City baseball program especially the Babe Ruth Cubs. After his retirement Oral enjoyed fishing and gardening, but above all he enjoyed spending time with his children and grandchildren. Love and laughter was always his criteria for the day. Oral is survived by four children, Pam (Jerry) Cummins, Judy (Alfred ) Kurtz, Debby (John) Graff, all of Scott City, Missouri, and Jim (Sally) Noon of Kelso, Missouri. He is survived by one sister, Faye (Ray) O'Neill of Davenport, Iowa. He is also survived by 19 grandchildren, 25 great grandchildren and 2 great great grandchildren. Oral was preceded in death by his wife, a son, Bill Noon, and six brothers, Leo, Leon , James, Leroy, Estel and Paul Martin. He was also preceded in death by a grandson, Kirk Cummins, great grandson, Conner Brashear and a great granddaughter, Alyssa Kurtz. Visitation will be from 11:00 Am until the time of service on Wednesday at Amick-Burnett Chapel. Funeral Service will be at 1:00 pm with Father Oliver Clavin officiating. Burial will be in Lightner Cemetery in Scott City with full military honors. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation.
