Almaretta Leona Schaefer, daughter of the late Theodore George Leible and Alma Rose (Gosche) Leible was born on January 4, 1934 in Kelso, Missouri and departed her life on Saturday, February 14, 2026 at Saint Francis Medical Center in Cape Girardeau, Missouri at the age of 92 years.
She was a former employee of Security Bank and Trust, Diebold Orchard, and Brown Shoe Company in Chaffee. Mrs. Schaefer was a member of the St. Joseph Catholic Church in Scott City and a resident of Scott City.
On January 12, 1957 she was united in marriage to Robert Eugene Schaefer in Kelso, Missouri. Mr. Schaefer preceded her in death on May 9, 2019.
Survivors include two sons, Ron (Patty) Schaefer and Don (Angela) Schaefer both of Scott City; one daughter, Linda (Joe) Finchum of Scott City; nine grandchildren, Elizabeth Finchum of Fort Worth, Texas, Rebecca Finchum of Scott City, Samantha (Nate) Roth of Jackson, Sadie (Ryan) Siebert of Wentzville, Missouri, Shelby (Jordan) Schaefer of Scott City, Kristin (Melo) Mumiukha of Norman, Oklahoma, Matthew (Ashley) Schaefer of Madera, California, Laurean (Eric) Lutes of O’Fallon, Missouri, Garett (Madison) Schaefer of Kansas City, Missouri; fifteen great-grandchildren, Lucas Mercer, Kaidence Mercer, Ellie Finchum, Sterling Roth, Brooks Siebert, Bentley Schaefer, Emery Mumiukha, Ava Damara Mumiukha, Khakasa Mumiukha, Lukela Mumiukha, Hunter Galvan, Westin Galvan, Martin Barrangan, Eleanor Lutes, and Oliver Lutes; also by a host of relatives and friends.
Along with her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by one brother, George Leible and by one sister, Theodora Taylor.
Visitation will be held on Friday, February 20, 2026 from 4:30 until 8:00 PM at Amick-Burnett Funeral Chapel in Scott City. Eucharistic service will be held on Saturday, February 21, 2026 at 9:00 AM with Pastor Tom Wilk officiating. Interment will follow in the St. Joseph Cemetery in Scott City.
