Billy Lockhart, son to the late Howard Harrison and Linnie Naomi Chew Lockhart was born on May 3, 1940 in Clinton, Arkansas and departed his life on June 4, 2025 at Fontainbleau Lodge in Cape Girardeau, Missouri at the age of 85 years.
He united in marriage to Virginia Louise Griswell on April 20, 1963 in Sikeston, Missouri. Billy and Virginia were blessed with two sons, David Nathaniel Lockhart, April 10, 1964 and Brian Keith Lockhart October 28, 1966 – April 29, 2025. She preceded him in death on January 25, 1996.
Billy and Virginia started their life together outside of Sikeston and moved to Champaign, Illinois in 1965 where Billy worked at Eisner as a custodian. In 1977 they moved to Chaffee, Missouri, then in 1994 they moved to their current location in Cape Girardeau.
In 1981 Billy began his 30-year career at Schnucks, working nights as part of the housekeeping crew. He worked hard for Schnucks to be known as the friendliest and cleanest store in town.
He was a wonderful husband and father. Virginia and Billy had a date night every Friday night, they were truly in love. Billy’s heart was broken when Virginia passed away at the young age of 54. Brian and David were also heartbroken to lose such a wonderful mother. Billy and the boys stayed together as a family even though the pain was severe after their loss.
He enjoyed the outdoors with yard work and gardening. He loved to eat biscuits and gravy at Bob Evans, where all the waiters had a special seat saved for him and they all loved Billy.
If you ask any of Billy’s nieces and nephews, they would tell you that “Uncle Bill” was their favorite. It was easy to see because he always had a smile and a joke to share. He was a man of few words but you can be sure, when he spoke it was important.
Besides his beautiful wife, Virginia; son, Brian and parents; he was preceded in death by three brothers and four sisters, Betty McAnelly, Carl Lockhart, Welton Lockhart, Athlene Bogel, Geraldine Lewis, Montene Watkins and James Lockhart; and a special niece, Debbie Buell.
Billy was baptized into the Holy Catholic Church and received First Holy Communion on May 27, 2025.
