Corey James Gettings, son of Terry Gettings and Rhonda Kester was born on June 8, 1991 in Cape Girardeau, Missouri and departed his life on June 17, 2026 at the age of 35 years.
He was a Scott City High School graduate, member of the Emanuel United Church of Christ where he was baptized, and employed at Scheeter Automotive & Diesel Center. Corey was a devoted husband, loving father, cherished son, brother, uncle, and friend. He was a hardworking man who took great pride in providing for his family. In his free time, he enjoyed building and wrecking demo derby cars, duck hunting, and spending time with those he loved most. His love for his family and his hardworking spirit will be remembered by all who knew him. Corey faced life’s challenges with remarkable strength, courage, and determination. A true warrior, he fought his battle with brain cancer with unwavering strength while continuing to put his family first. His resilience inspired everyone around him, and his kindness, sense of humor, and generous heart touched countless lives.
On April 29, 2023 he was united in marriage to Haley Rae Dabbs in Jackson, Missouri. She survives of the home in Jackson, Missouri.
Along with his wife Haley and his parents, Terry Gettings and Rhonda Kester, survivors include; two sons, Waylon and Weston Gettings; one daughter, Addyson Ellis; father-and mother-in-law, David (Tammy) Dabbs; four brothers, Kyler (Lauren) Gettings, Collin Ward, Dustin (Christina) Matty, and Brandon (Lindsey) Matty; two sisters, Cassie (AJ) Rhyne and Tasha (Alan) Hess; an uncle Paul (Hilary) Kester; also, by his faithful and dedicated Pit Crew Chief, Wyatt Martin & Pit Crew; along with five nieces and eight nephews.
He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Leonard and J.T. Gettings; Great-grandparents, Walter and Bonnie Johnston; grandmothers-in-law, Wanda King and Edna Wren; and one brother-in-law, Whitley Dabbs.
Visitation will be held on Friday, June 26, 2026 from 3:00 until 8:00 PM at the Scott City Fema Building. Funeral services will be conducted on Saturday, June 27, 2026 at 11:00 AM in the Scott City Fema Building with Brother Samuel E. Roethemeyer officiating. Interment will follow in the Cape County Memorial Park Cemetery.
