Donald Charles Heisserer

Donald Charles Heisserer, 91, of Scott City passed away peacefully Monday, February 16,2026 at his home surrounded by family.

He was born January 15,1935 in Kelso to Charles and Rose (Grojean) Heisserer. He married the love of his life, Wilma Seyer on September 6, 1958 at Guardian Angel in Oran.

After the tragic death of his father, Don, at age 9, began learning to farm under the tutelage of his grandpa, Andrew Heisserer. Don became the man of the house, helping to support his mother, Rose, and his sisters. This instilled in Don a strong work ethic and deep commitment to caring for others. Later, he worked for Drury Tile and Plastering, where he designed and fabricated a roof decking machine which helped the business grow. In 1962, he expanded his farm, and became a full-time farmer. Over the years, many area youth hauled hay and straw for Don, learning how to work fast and stack bales tightly. Don had the gift of storytelling, telling stories to all who would listen, children, grandchildren and friends. He will be remembered as a proud father, loving grandfather and great grandfather. His warm smile, generous spirit and deep faith leaves a lasting impression on all who knew him.

Don was a member of St. Augustine Catholic Church in Kelso, generously giving his time, talent, and resources wherever there was need. He served on the St. Augustine Parish Council, Men’s Club, Cemetery Board, and Building Committee. He was a member of the Knights of

Columbus Council #6420 and Notre Dame Booster Club. In 1977 the Heisserers received the Missouri Farm Family of the Year award. Don was active in the University of Missouri Extension, enhancing lives and communities by addressing key challenges in agriculture, education, health and economic development. Don was active in the Scott County Industrial Development Association and the Scott County Pork Producers, being recognized as Pork Producer of the Year.

To cherish Don’s memory he leaves behind his wife of nearly 68 years, Wilma; daughters, Tina (Jeff) Gorman of Kansas City, Missouri, Terri Heisserer of Cape Girardeau and Trisha (Fred)

Schneider of Kelso; sons, Charlie (Carol) Heisserer and Craig Heisserer both of Scott City, Curt (Kerry) Heisserer of Foristell, Missouri; 14 grandchildren, Will (Alex) Gorman, Paige (Ben)

Rioux, Hannah (John) McCoy, Morgan (Connor) Thrower, Christine (Eric) Johnson, Carly (Michael) McShane, Courtney (husband, Walter Orr) Schneider, Taylor ( Zach) Frey, Madison (fiancé Chase Baran) Heisserer, Andrew Heisserer, Kelsey (Ryan) Richardson, Brandon (Sarah) Heisserer, Colin (Madison) Heisserer and Mackenzi (Martin) Brunnert; by seventeen great-grandchildren and two great-grandchildren on the way; by three sisters, Mona (Joe) Nenninger of Jackson, Charlene Alvarado of San Antonio, Texas and Carolyn Bohnert of Cape Girardeau; also by a host of relatives and friends.

Along with his parents, Don was preceded in death by one sister, Ann Drury; two brothers-in-law, Robert Drury and Bill Bohnert.
