Donald Ray Sanders of Scott City, Missouri

November 22, 1949 - July 19, 2019

Donald Ray “Don” Sanders, 69, of Scott City, passed away Friday July 19, 2019 at the Lutheran Home in Cape Girardeau. He was born Nov. 22, 1949, in Cape Girardeau, the son of Joseph C. and Lillian L. Kerley Sanders. He married Terry Scheper on Aug. 22, 1987.

Don ran Sanders Insurance for many years. He was a member of Eisleben Lutheran Church in Scott City. He was the first Eagle Scout from Illmo boy Scout Troop 22. He was a 3 time recipient of the BSA mile swim award. He was a member of the BSA Order of the Arrow. Former Cub Scout Master of Scott City Pack 220. First ever Scout Master of Scott City Boy Scout Troop 29.

His love for music followed him throughout his life, starting with private drum lessons at the age of 8, continuing until age 62 when he had his stroke. Throughout his life, he played for many different groups and bands throughout southeast Missouri and southern Illinois, including a band he helped start in the early 60’s called the Jaguars. They were a very popular local group throughout the 60’s and 70’s. His musical talent helped him to receive a BS Degree in Biology from SEMO University where he received a musical scholarship as a parade drummer for the SEMO Golden Eagles Marching Band. The show band of the Midwest at that time.

He is survived by his wife Terry Sanders of Scott City; a son Neil (Angie) Sanders of Smithville, MO; 2 step sons, Mark Morrill of Scott City and Chris (Jennifer) Morrill of Cape Girardeau; 2 daughters, Sarah (Jeremy) Pruden, Lisa (Jody) Enderle, and a step daughter Lorie (Doug) Robert, all of Scott City; a sister Lillian (Ervin) Markhart of Hayden, Idaho; and 10 grandchildren.

Visitation will be Sunday from 5 to 8:00 p.m. at Amick-Burnett Funeral Chapel in Scott City. Funeral service will be Monday at 11:00 a.m. in the chapel, with Rev. Marty Hasz officiating assisted by Rev. Randy Morse. Interment will follow in Lightner Memorial Cemetery.
