Emma Anna Gaines

Emma Anna Gaines, 94, of Oran passed away Saturday, January 19, 2019 at The Chateau Girardeau.

She was born on March 3, 1924 in Portageville, Missouri to the late John and Elizabeth Elfrink Eftink. She married Robert Taylor Gaines on Feb. 21, 1950 and he preceded her in death on Oct. 19, 2017.

Emma was a homemaker. She was a member of Guardian Angel Parish in Oran and St. Ann’s PCCW.

She is survived by two sons, John (Debbie) Gaines and Andrew (Tammy) Gaines both of Oran; four daughters, Mary Ann (Ken) Sallman of Ramsey, Minnesota; Martha J. Hamm of Chaffee; Donna (Alan) Zeigler and Betty (Larry) Essner both of Benton, Missouri; 16 grandchildren, Janet (Al) Pagel of Benson, Minnesota; Melissa Sallman of Naples, Florida; Bill (Dianna) Hamm of Scott City; Keith (Kelli) Hamm of Jackson; Brian (Mary Beth) Hamm of Lakeland, Tennessee; Angela (Justin Overton) Baker of Benton; Michael (Ashley) Zeigler of Scott City; Sarah (Aaron) Young of Fulton, Missouri; Derek (Darby) Gaines of Bald Knob, Arkansas; Matthew (Jody) Essner of Columbia, Missouri; Justin (Rebecca) Essner of Orlando, Florida; Janelle (Tim) Panosian of Waltham, Massachusetts; Kayla Essner of Englewood, Colorado; Kelsey (Jacob) Bullinger of Ozora, Missouri; Kacie (Andrew) Hulshof of Oran; Krissy Gaines of Oran; 17 great-grandchildren, Victoria, Kimberly, Joey Pagel; Karson, Kynsleigh, William II (Liam), Isabella (Bella) Hamm; Conner Baker; Avery, Keegan Zeigler; Garrett, Brock, Benjamin, Grace Essner; Nathan and Rowan Panosian; Jude Bullinger; a sister-in-law, Letha Eftink of Portageville, Missouri and numerous nieces and nephews.

She was also preceded in death by a son-in-law, Roger Hamm; two grandsons, Kenny Sallman and John Wayne Hamm; four brothers, Henry, Paul, George and Andrew Eftink; two sisters, Jane Priggel and Mary Klipfel.

Friends may call after 8:00 am on Saturday, January 26, at Guardian Angel Catholic School in Oran. Parish rosary will be at 8:00 am followed by KC prayers.

Funeral Mass will be at 11:00 am on Saturday at Guardian Angel Catholic Church with Rev. Randy Tochtrop as celebrant. Burial will be at Guardian Angel Cemetery in Oran.

In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to a charity of your choice in the memory of Emma A. Gaines.
