Freida M Gamblin

Freida Probst-Gamblin, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and faithful servant of the Lord, passed away peacefully on Sunday, December 28, 2025, at her daughter’s home in Scott City, Missouri. She was born on May 20, 1954, in Cape Girardeau, Missouri, to the late Pearl and Alma (Riley) Probst.

Freida lived her life completely devoted to Jesus Christ. A loving homemaker and ordained minister for several years, she faithfully shared the Gospel throughout Southeast Missouri and Southern Illinois. Her greatest desire was for everyone she met to know the Lord. Freida loved Jesus with her whole heart, and her faith was evident in her words, her actions, and the way she loved people. She prayed boldly, believed deeply, and never missed an opportunity to share the hope she found in Christ.

On September 15, 2007, in Jackson, Missouri, Freida married John Gamblin.

She was a devoted wife and mother and found her greatest joy in being “Grandma.” Freida dearly loved her grandchildren: Haley (Michael) Shuffit, Brianna (Zach) Sears, Caleb Sykes, Chris Sansoucie, Michaela Howell, and Daci Tillman, along with her treasured great-grandchildren: Makena, Natalie, Remington, Stella, Sophie, Samuel, and Ellis.

In addition to her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, Freida is survived by her husband, John Gamblin; her daughters, April (Adam) Howell and Theresa Chiles of Scott City, Missouri, and Jessica Jones of Marble Hill, Missouri; her brother, Ronnie Probst; her sister, Audrey (Norman) Denny of Chaffee, Missouri; and numerous nieces and nephews who also held a special place in her heart.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her brothers, Paul Probst, Glen Probst, James Probst, and Marshall Leroy Probst; and her sisters, Rosie Fritz and Arlene Leist.

From her family:

If our mom could say one thing to everyone reading this, it would be to know Jesus. Her life was a testimony of God’s grace, mercy, and faithfulness. She believed with all her heart that Heaven is real, that Jesus saves, and that this life is only the beginning. While we miss her deeply, we find comfort knowing she is healed, whole, and rejoicing with new eyes in the presence of her Savior.

As Scripture says, “I have fought the good fight, I have finished my course, I have kept the faith.” — 2 Timothy 4:7
