Gladys Jewel Baker

Gladys Baker, daughter of the late Ollie Edgar Hensley and Mabel Hazel (Jobe) Hensley was born on November 26, 1933 in Benton, Missouri and departed her life on May 1, 2026 at the Lutheran Home in Cape Girardeau, Missouri at the age of 92 years.

She was co-owner and operator of Bakers Finer Food from 1965-1990. Mrs. Baker was of the Baptist Faith, member of the Precious Moments Club, and a resident of Scott City.

On July 25, 1953 she was united in marriage to Alvie Gene Baker in Corinth, Mississippi. Mr. Baker survives the home in Scott City.

She loved spending time with her family and until recent years She was the heart of the family gatherings. Cooking and caring for everyone.

Along with her husband, survivors include two daughters, Debi Baker of Morse Hill, Missouri and Cyndi Baker of Scott City; one brother, Don (Betty) Hensley of Florida; daughter-in-law, Jill Baker of Scott City; seven grandchildren, Tara (Bryan) McKinley, Kaleigh (John) Graff, Macie (Ashton) Walker, Race Baker, Cortney Stubenrauch, Marki Coomer, and Eric Baker; ten great-grandchildren; also, by a host of family and friends.

Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by one son, Terry Baker; two brothers, Bob and Charles Hensley.

Visitation will be held on Tuesday, May 5, 2026 from 11:00 until 2:00 at Amick-Burnett Funeral Home in Scott City. Funeral services will then be conducted at 2:00 PM with Rev. Randy Morse officiating. Interment will follow in the Lightner Cemetery.
