James “Eddie” cook, son of Melvin and Clara Cook, born on February 16, 1950, in Scott City, Missouri has passed suddenly on November 4,2025 at the age of 75.

Eddie is survived by his wife of 46 years Nancy Estes Cook of Yuma, Arizona, daughter Misty Baker of Phoenix, Arizona and her husband Stephen, two grandsons Dylan and Chad, brother Freddy Cook of Jefferson City, sisters in law, Debbie (Alan) & Sandy (Melvin) Cook, & numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Eddie is preceded in death by their infant son Zachary James Cook, brothers Norman, Melvin, Tommy Billy, & Alan, and sisters Francis and Carolyn. He is also survived by four fur babies, Pookie, Lily, Tom, Tom and Kiki.

Eddie graduated from Scott city high school in 1968 and was drafted into the US Army where he was honorably discharged after serving for two years. Eddie’s professional life started as a deck hand on several towboats; he then began his federal career in the Army core of engineers in St. Louis, Missouri in 1979. Eddie and Nancy then moved to Yuma Arizona in 1985 where he continued as a Leverman III in the Bureau of Reclamation, retiring after 32 years of service.

Eddie enjoyed golfing, fishing, playing poker with his cronies, going to the casino, and always lending a helping hand to his friends, neighbors and family. Eddie was an avid sports enthusiast, being especially devoted to his favorite team, the St. Louis Cardinals. Eddie was quick witted, a real jokester and truly enjoyed making others laugh.

He will be greatly missed by so many.

There will be a Celebration of Life from 11:00 am – 11:30 am on April 18, 2026, at Lightner Cemetery in Scott City. Gathering by Zackary Cook’s Monument.

Service will be followed by Noon lunch in the Dining Room at Dexter Bar-B-Que, 236 S. Broadview St., Cape Girardeau, MO
