John Paul Ham

John Paul “J.P.” Ham, 82, of Port St. Lucie, Florida, passed away peacefully on May 5, 2026. Born on February 28, 1944, in Cape Girardeau, Missouri. J.P. lived a life full of passion, dedication, and love for his family and friends.

J.P. had a career in the railroad industry, holding every position on a train crew – from brakeman to engineer. His work ethic and commitment to his profession were evident throughout his life. J.P. was a man of many interests and talents. A lifelong advocate for fitness and weight training, he found joy in working out at his gym, the Ripshed. He loved to mentor people on working out. He also loved spending time outdoors tending to his yard and cherishing every moment spent with his grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Music was another of J.P.’s passions. He loved music and played drums in the band The Runaways. Known for his sense of humor and playful spirit, J.P. delighted in playing jokes on others and striking up conversations with people whether they were lifelong friends or strangers he had just met.

Primarily, J.P. was a devoted family man. He is survived by his wife, Lisa Ham; daughters Hope Haynes and Heather Thomas; son-in-law Blake Thomas; sons Paul Ham and Derek Ham; daughter-in-law Lyndsay Mosbey, step daughter Jennifer Miranda; step son-in-law Jason Miranda; step son Jaris Hye; step daughter-in-law Jonna Hye; grandchildren Zach Haynes, Gabriel Haynes, Taylor Haynes, Hannah Thomas, Wyatt Thomas, Meredith Ham, Maddox Ham, Lauren Ham, Devon Ham, Diamond Ham, Nathan Ham, Blake Mosbey, and Easton Mosby; step grand-children Foster Hye, Charley Hye, Brieyanna Keeler, Carlee Miranda, and Alana Miranda; great grand-children Maisyn Ham and Emery Ham, great step grandchild Ziggie Keeler and sister Caron Sander, as well as many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his father and mother, Paul and Fern Ham, and his grandson Joshua Thomas.

J.P.’s kindness and generosity left an indelible mark on everyone who knew him. He was always willing to lend a helping hand to friends and family alike. His legacy as a loving husband, father, grandfather, and as a kind soul who brought joy to so many will live on in the hearts of those who loved him.

May J.P.’s memory bring comfort to all who were fortunate enough to know him. A memorial service will be held on June 26, 2026, officiated by Jeremy Sells, at First Baptist Church 1102 2nd Street in Scott City, MO with visitation at 3:00 pm and a celebration of life at 4:00 pm.
