Logan James Berry, 36 of Jackson Mo passed away May 4th in Cape Girardeau, after a long battle with anxiety and depression.
He was born September 2nd, 1988 to Janay Berry and Chris Berry and was a 2007 graduate of Sikeston High School where he was a member of the wrestling team. He joined the United States Navy and served as a Hospital Corpsman in Okinawa Japan for 4 years. He was employed by Midwest Sterilization Corporation in Jackson.
As a child, Logan began his wrestling career in kindergarten winning 1st place in the Jackson Optimist Youth Wrestling Program that year. He and his brother later joined Jackson USA wrestling and spent many weekends traveling throughout Southeast Missouri and the St Louis area at wrestling tournaments acquiring numerous medals along the way. One of the highlights of those tournaments was the day Rick Flair attended a tournament and he got his picture taken standing next to one of his wrestling idols. He recently helped coach his nephew Sam’s Optimist Wrestling team the Hawkeyes, and enjoyed working with the kids teaching them the skills to be a successful wrestler and was always the best at offering support and encouragement after one of them lost their match. It was during this time that we caught a glimpse of happiness and joy in his life that we had not seen in quite some time.
Logan had a huge heart and was kind and thoughtful. As a child he always was the class clown and kept his friends entertained talking in his Donald Duck voice. He loved animals and was always the first to spot any wildlife if you were in a vehicle with him just driving down the road. He was a St Louis Blues fan and enjoyed watching WWE Wrestling and listening to Lana Del Ray music. He was always glued to the TV during the Olympics every 2 years and his favorite athlete was Simone Biles and had talked about trying to attend the next summer Olympics in Los Angeles hoping she would compete again and he could witness her greatness. He was a man of routine and never missed going to Casey’s every day to get his Code Red fountain soda.
Even though Logan’s illness told him differently, he was greatly loved by his family, friends and coworkers.
Logan is survived by his mother Janay Berry of Jackson, his father and step mother Chris and Cricket Berry of Sikeston, brother and sister-in-law Lance and Amanda Berry of Jackson, sister and future brother-in-law Lindsay Berry and Jonathan Heiney of Grand Junction Colorado, sister and brother in law Jeanetta and Dietrich Bollinger of Sikeston, nephews Cael and Samuel Berry and Tristan Masters and Kamden Bollinger, niece Calleigh Berry, and several aunts, uncles and cousins who loved him dearly. He was loved and supported and will be greatly missed by his work mom Beth Hahn, numerous friends and his dog Derp.
He was preceded in death by his grandparents Elmer and Amonell Welter and George and Ann Berry, his Uncle Charles Berry and Aunt Sonya Warning.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the family which will be used to establish a fund to help support Jackson Optimist Wrestling allowing any child who wishes to wrestle to do so if they are unable because of cost.
We are comforted knowing that Logan’s kind and gentle heart is now at peace.
