Marilyn Ann Hampton

October 15, 1939 — June 11, 2026

Marilyn Ann Hampton

Marilyn Ann Hampton, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and friend, was born October 15, 1939, in Coon Rapids, Iowa, and stepped peacefully into the arms of her Savior on June 11, 2026, at Mercy Southeast Hospital in Cape Girardeau, Missouri. She was 86 years young.

Marilyn lived her life with a warmth that could fill a room and a joy that lifted every heart around her. She was bubbly, energetic, and endlessly loving — the kind of woman who made people feel seen, welcomed, and cherished from the moment she smiled at them.

In her senior years, Marilyn poured her heart into ministering to seniors and veterans, serving faithfully in the Missouri Veterans Home Chapel. She and her husband Jim shared a calling to bring comfort, hope, and music to those who needed it most. Marilyn especially loved to sing — not for applause, but to bless, to encourage, and to remind others that they were loved by God. Being around her was a blessing in itself.

Before retirement, Marilyn worked in various accounting and administrative roles, including as a medical transcriptionist and legal secretary in Hemet, California. But her greatest work was always the love she gave so freely.

On October 23, 1976, she married the love of her life, James Aaron Hampton, in Las Vegas, Nevada. For nearly fifty years, they walked side by side — partners in life, in ministry, and in joy. Jim survives of the home in Cape Girardeau.

Marilyn is also survived by her son Chad (April) Hampton of Cape Girardeau; her grandson Isaac Hampton of Jackson; her bonus daughter Leigh Hampton of Jackson; her brother Mark Peterson; her sisters Julie Hansel, Marcia McClintock, Debra Higdon, and Kathy Rickli; and a large circle of family and friends who were touched by her kindness.

She was preceded in death by her parents; three precious stillborn children who now welcome her in heaven; four brothers — Larry, Rich, John, and Norman Peterson; and one sister, Janice Bontrager.

In lieu of flowers, the family invites those who wish to honor Marilyn’s life to make a contribution to Jim Hampton, who will prayerfully determine the most meaningful way to continue Marilyn’s legacy of music, ministry, and love for seniors and veterans.

A private celebration of Marilyn’s life will be held at a later date.

Arrangements are being handled by Amick‑Burnett Funeral Chapels.

Those who knew Marilyn will remember her laughter, her music, her compassion, and the way she made every person feel like they mattered. Her light will continue to shine in the lives she touched.
