Marlene Kay Haggerty

Marlene K. Haggerty nee. Watson, daughter of the late First Lt. Russell Watson and Freda Watson Fox nee. Humphreys was born March 5, 1941 in Fayette Pennsylvania, and departed her life on Friday, October 13, 2023 at the Lutheran Home in Cape Girardeau, Missouri at the age of 82 years.

On May 25, 1960 she married John “Jack” Haggerty in LaVale, Maryland. He preceded her in death on January 4, 2023.

Marlene will be lovingly remembered as a world-wide and world-class Mom and Grandma. There was no such thing as "not enough for one more"... she made more than enough time, attention, food, room and motherly love for everyone taken into her home or kitchen. In fact, she welcomed and fostered a multitude of foreign exchange students from as far away as Japan, Brazil, and Mexico. There was no such thing as a language barrier between Marlene and her foreign houseguests because food was the well-understood universal love language at her table. She was a daughter, sister, wife, mother, grandma, hostess, cook and woman extraordinaire!

She is survived by six children: Robin M. (James) Brashear of Lewiston, Idaho, Jacqueline L. (Steve) Barrick of Burns, Tennessee, Kris A. (Mark) Wallis of Imperial, Missouri, Janice L. (John) Gladden of Tallahassee, Florida, John T. (Angie) Haggerty of Cape Girardeau, Missouri, and Robert J. (Tracy) Haggerty of Cape Girardeau, Missouri; one sister: Gail Guard of Connellsville, Pennsylvania; 23 grandchildren, and 24 great-grandchildren.

Apart from her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by one brother: Russell “Son” Watson Jr.; one sister: Linda Jones.

There will be a Memorial Service in her hometown of Connellsville, Pennsylvania at a later date.
