Paul Louis Nation, 96, of Scott City, Missouri, passed away on February 6, 2026, at the Missouri Veteran’s Home.

Paul was born March 26, 1929, on Brickyard Hill in Illmo, Missouri, to John and Florence “Lily” Blankenship Nation. He was the oldest of eleven children. A proud combat veteran, Paul served his country during the Korean War as a forward artillery observer.

Following his return home from military service, Paul married Margaret Alveda Spriggs on April 3, 1953. Together they built a life in Scott City and raised three children, Teresa, Garry, and Dorothy.

Paul began working at the age of 14 in railroad track maintenance. He later served the community through his work with the Scott City Maintenance and Water Department, where he remained until his retirement. Paul was known for his strong work ethic, independence, and deep connection to his community.

He is survived by his daughters and daughter-in-law, Teresa (Robert) Eachus, Dorothy (Mark) Newell, Sheila Nation; five grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; two siblings; and many other loving family members and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Margaret (Alveda); two sons, Garry and an infant son; and eight siblings.

Visitation will be from 12:00 pm – 1:00 pm on Wednesday, February 11 at the Amick-Burnett Funeral Chapel in Scott City.

Funeral services will be at 1:00 pm on Wednesday at the chapel on with Rev. Rennie Phillips officiating.

Burial will be at Lightner’s Cemetery with full military honors.

The family would like to express their sincere gratitude to the staff and volunteers at the Missouri Veteran’s Home for the compassionate care they provided Paul. They also wish to thank the many people in Scott City whose kindness and support helped Paul remain independent well into his 90s.
