Sharon Lynne Salem

December 16, 1949 — July 4, 2025

Chaffee

Sharon Salem, daughter of the late James Robert Keller and Marion Lucille (Dale) Keller, was born on December 16, 1949 in Bellefonte, Pennsylvania and departed her life on Friday, July 4, 2025 at Chaffee Nursing Center in Chaffee, Missouri at the age of 75 years.

Mrs. Salem attended Penn State University in State College, Pennsylvania where she met Hamdy Ahmed Salem. They married on June 21, 1980 and, soon after, chose to continue their life together in Fulton, Missouri when Sharon got a job as an Accounting Professor at Westminster College. As a professor, Sharon enjoyed coming up with creative ways to boost her students’ understanding of the subject. She also loved fostering lasting connections with her students, often staying in touch with them long past graduation. She was especially loved by the international students because she expressed such an interest in their various cultures.

Mrs. Salem moved to Southeast Missouri in 2011 to be closer to her daughter, Maggie. Much of her time in this area was spent knitting hats. Over the years, Sharon knitted thousands of hats, all of which were donated to either Street Level Cape Girardeau, the Veterans Home, the SEMO Safe House, or multiple different elementary schools. She also took custom orders from friends, family, and those who worked at her places of residence. Her artistry and creativity brought much joy to those who had the pleasure of knowing her.

Sharon’s husband, Hamdy, preceded her in death. Survivors include two daughters, Maggie Salem of Cape Girardeau, Missouri and Nadia Salem of Chicago, Illinois; one son, Jason Salem of Columbia, Missouri; one sister, Debbie Mills of Pennsylvania; also, by other relatives.

Amick-Burnett Funeral Chapel is assisting with arrangements.
