Velma Jane “Janie” August

Velma Jane August, daughter of the late Alfred Krieger and Laura Catherine (Hopke) Krieger was born on February 5, 1939 in Illmo, Missouri and departed her life on Saturday, September 20, 2025 at her residence in Scott, Missouri at the age of 86 years.

She dedicated much of her career to accounting and clerical work. Later in life, she embraced her role as a homemaker and found joy in caring for her family. Mrs. August was a devoted mother to her sons, a loving grandmother to her grandsons, Yate Yamaw to her cherished great-grandchildren, and a beloved “Aunt Janie” to her nephews. Janie was a member of Eisleben Lutheran Church in Scott City.

On March 14, 1961 she was united in marriage to Douglas Gene August in Illmo, Missouri. Mr. August preceded her in death on January 15, 2020.

Survivors include one son, Trent (Patti) August of Scott City; two grandsons, Nicholas (Tammy) August of Scott City and Mitchell (Rachel) August of Cape Girardeau; three great-grandchildren, Aubrey, Emeric, and Eleanor; one sister, Mary Lee (Everett) Holder of Scott City; nephews, Terry (Sandy) Holder and Scott (Sherry) Holder; also, by many other nephew and nieces.

Along with her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by one son, Gregg August.

Visitation will be held on Tuesday, September 23, 2025 from 9:00 until 11:00 AM at Eisleben Lutheran Church in Scott City/Illmo, Missouri. Funeral services will then be conducted at 11:00 AM with Rev. Barry Pfanstiel officiating. Interment will follow in the Lightner Cemetery.
