Our history dates back to 1916 when Lon C. and Mamie Bisplinghoff founded the business in Chaffee, as Bisplinghoff Funeral Home. Mrs. Bisplinghoff was a licensed embalmer in 1927 and was one of the first women to hold such a license. The Bisplinghoffs purchased the Russeler Funeral Home at Illmo (now Scott City) in 1928. After serving during World War II, Mrs. Bisplinghoffs’ nephew, Ollie C. Amick and Jack T. Burnett joined the Bisplinghoffs’ as licensed embalmers and funeral directors in 1946.

In 1954, following the death of Mrs. Bisplinghoff, the two men formed a partnership with Mr. Bisplinghoff and in 1957 they became sole owners. In 1960, the firm built  a chapel at Benton and in 1964 they purchased the Earl J. Smith Funeral Home in Oran. A new building was constructed in Oran in 2000. In 1975, the name of the firm was changed to Amick- Burnett Funeral Chapels.

Over the years, the owners were joined by their sons, Scott C. Amick, Jack Leslie Burnett, and Mark S. Amick, These additions marked the beginning of a third generation of family funeral directors and in 1988 the boys purchased the firm from their fathers and continue to serve families in the same manner handed down to them by their fathers.
